SEIU NEWSLETTER
We are inspired by the front line workers who are putting their lives on the line for the American people, and by the can-do spirit of cooperation evident in families and neighborhoods across the country. We are a nation that mobilized all of our resources to win World War II, created the Marshall Plan to rebuild war-torn Europe, and put a man on the moon. We can do anything we put our minds to, together. But we need national leadership from the Trump Administration and the business community to work with working people to defeat this pandemic and protect all workers. You have the right to union representation any time you face a meeting or discussion with a supervisor that could lead to discipline. Your employer usually has no obligation to inform you of your right to have a union representative present. You must ask for your rights! Your employer must give you time to contact a union representative and allow the representative to be present at the meeting.

MESSAGE FROM NJ GOVERNER
As part of the commitment Gov. Phil Murphy made during his State of the State address in January to changing the culture of Trenton and promoting equity for all employees, the governor on Feb. 13 announced that the state of New Jersey will be reevaluating current workplace standards and training procedures. The aim of this initiative is to ensure the broadest scope of workplace protections possible for the broadest number of state employees, with the end goal of ensuring inclusion and equity for all regardless of sex, race or gender identity.

PROTECTING THE RIGHT TO ORGANIZE
The Protecting the Right to Organize Act, known as the PRO Act, would amend some of the country’s decades-old labor laws to give workers more power during disputes at work, add penalties for companies that retaliate against workers who organize and grant some hundreds of thousands of workers collective-bargaining rights they don’t currently have. It would also weaken “right-to-work” laws in 27 states that allow employees to forgo participating in and paying dues to unions.
ARE YOU SATISFIED WITH YOUR BENEFITS?
Ninety-four percent of union workers had access to employer-provided medical care benefits, compared with 67 percent of nonunion workers. Having access means employers offered the benefit, regardless of whether employees chose to participate. Seventy-six percent of union workers and 48 percent of nonunion workers participated in an employer-provided medical care plan. As Union workers we may pay less for benefits, but we get more than non-union employees. Take a look at the article below to see.
LABOR HISTORY TIMELINE
We all take for granted having weekends off. Getting payed overtime, and having benefits. But did you know none of this would of happened if it was not for unions, and the labor movement? Please take a look at the article below to see the history of unions and the labor movement.
